The Property
Our project centers on a historic building at 209 N Lynn St in downtown Waynesville, Missouri. This former library building holds special significance in the community and we are honored to transform it into a center of worship, education, and service.
The building's mixed-use zoning allows us to create a comprehensive Islamic center featuring:
- Lower Level: Masjid (prayer hall), education classrooms, and community spaces
- Upper Level: Six apartments providing affordable housing for Muslim families
- Location: Central Waynesville location, minutes from Fort Leonard Wood
- History: Preserving the historic character while adapting for modern use
Supporting Fort Leonard Wood
Fort Wood Masjid recognizes the significant role Fort Leonard Wood plays in our community. Our vision includes supporting the unique needs of military families, including:
- Active-duty service members and their families
- Veterans transitioning to civilian life
- Military spouses seeking community support
- Children of military families needing stable Islamic education
- Deployed service members' families requiring community care
We understand the challenges of military life and aim to provide a spiritual home where service members can maintain their Islamic practice.
Leadership & Governance
Fort Wood Masjid is governed by a board of trustees elected from the community, operating with transparency and accountability. Our leadership is committed to:
- Transparent financial management and regular reporting
- Community involvement in major decisions
- Adherence to Islamic principles in all operations
- Professional management of facilities and programs
- Consultation with Islamic scholars on religious matters
